Stripping a four cylinder engine

First we removed the cam belt and made sure that the engine was timed. We then un bolted the rocket cover using a 10mm socket a ratchet after we removed this we then removed the Top Dead Centre bolts in a special sequence the reason we did this is because we will be preventing any damage to the valves and cylinders. After we did this we removed the cylinder and I then I used this special tool called the valve spring compressor to compress the springs and release the valves.

Micrometer

I learnt how to use a Micrometer which is used to measure the width and depth ie the width of the Rotor disk and a venae Gauge and example of what you would use this for would be the depth of a tyre which should be at a minimum 1.5mm tread
we used a digital Vernier gauge which we used to find out about a warped rotor disk as we observed beforehand

Safely remove all of the tyres from vehicle

To safely remove tyres we loosened all the nuts and then remove the nuts in a diagonal direction this will stop any uneven wear to the thread of the nuts. After we have done this we would remove the Tyre , and for safety measures and for the protection of the alloy mags we would have the mag facing towards the sky to avoid any damage. We then placed the tyre underneath the car by the sills so that for any reason the axle stands gave way we would be protected with the tyres.

Jacking up a Car

First we had to do a vehicle check to note down any previous damage to the vehicle including little chips etc.To jack up a car safely we needed to find out where the centre cross member
was and then jack up the vehicle. We then got two of our axle stands and placed them underneath the side strut bars on either side of the vehicle then we did the same to the rear end of the car we jacked it up on the rear centre cross member and place axle stands in front of the rear tyres either on the safety axle stand points or on a solid part under the car.
